On The Job Training
One of the most effective means that we have found to help enhance the skills of the resident population is through on-the-job training. Often the offender population is unable to find employment on their own due to their lack of marketable job skills or their own lack of self confidence in their abilities. In the on the job training (OJT) program, residents are assigned small construction or landscaping type projects in order to meet their community service obligations. The resident is then trained by a security staff member with experience in the project being completed. The resident assists in the project as a laborer and develops new skills as a result of their participation.
