Floyd County

Employment / Transportation

While Floyd County dealt with unemployment rates that averaged above 7.9% in 2014, the average wait time for residents to find employment was less than ten days. This feat would not have been possible without the work of the Resident Employment Division of the Work Release Program. This section of the Work Release Center assisted 239 convicted felons find gainful employment and maintained an employment average of 98% for FY 2014

This program gives residents the skills to find a job and become a valuable employee.  Some of the Job Readiness classes include:

· How to be an exceptional employeeresume

· Positive attitude on the job

· Dress for success

· Courtesy to coworkers and supervisors

· Detailed explanation of the seriousness of false workers compensation claims

· Resume writing

Residents also receive a 10 hour OSHA Certified Occupation Safety  and Health Training Course in General Industry Safety & Health

Another one of the programs that has allowed the Floyd County Work Release Center to prosper where other work release programs have failed is the Transportation Division. This division consists of two non-certified staff members whose primary mission is to transport residents to and from their place of employment twenty four hours a day.  This division was able to log over 130,000 accident free miles in 2014.
