Town Green Fountain Closed for Shakespeare Festival Preparations

By Kristi Kent

The interactive fountain at the Town Green will be closed to the public starting May 24 and will reopen Tuesday, June 12, 2018. The Town Green is still open to the public, but the fountain is closing to prepare for Rome Shakespeare Festival setup and staging.

The festival opens tonight at Makervillage with the “Complete Works of Shakespeare”. Town Green performances will begin Tuesday, May 29, at 7 p.m. with Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”. Multiple performances of five different plays will be featured throughout the two-week long festival at different downtown Rome locations.

Most performances are free, but some events are ticketed or offer options for table reservations. For details and a complete performance schedule, visit For more information about the Rome Shakespeare Festival, call 706-331-1006.
