Lonzo Roberson Named Interim Police Chief
The office of the Rome City Manager named Lonzo Roberson Tuesday as Interim Police Chief during the search for a permanent replacement for Chief Elaine Snow, who retires at the end of this year.
Chief Roberson is slated to begin work on January 4, 2016 and stay on throughout the search process which is expected to conclude in less than 120 days.
The City of Rome is currently accepting applications for the permanent chief of police post until Jan. 31.
Chief Roberson previously served in the role of interim police chief when former Chief Hubert Smith retired in 2010.
“Roberson is well respected amongst the department and certainly has the experience and leadership needed to handle operations.” City Manager Sammy Rich said.
Roberson first joined the Rome City Police Department as a patrol officer in 1972 and rose through the ranks. He became a sergeant in 1983 and was promoted to deputy chief in 1984. He served in that position longer than any other deputy chief for the department.
