City of Rome Parking Office Shares Update on Downtown Rome Parking Options & Plans
By Amanda Carter
The City of Rome Parking Office would like to keep the public informed of parking options and updates on the phased parking plan.
The parking office is currently in Phase 1 of the parking plan and has selected a License Place Recognition (LPR) vendor. LPR will provide for better enforcement of the current 2-hour time limit ordinance for on-street parking, while collecting vital information for planning of Phase 2. Downtown Parking is currently enforced from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday; once the installation of LPR is completed the hours of enforcement will be 8 am to 8 pm. The office anticipates that the new technology will roll out this quarter.
Upon roll-out of LPR, new parking deck kiosks will be installed at 3rd Ave Deck, 6th Ave Deck and the Annex Lot behind 200 block businesses on East 1st Street; which allows for parking payments by cash, credit or through the mobile app. The first hour will continue to remain free; $1 per hour thereafter; $8 maximum per day.
The month of free holiday parking at the 3rd Avenue Parking Deck received great response from the community who enjoyed easy access to area shopping, events, services and dining for the holidays. The free holiday parking promotion at the 3rd Avenue Parking Deck has ended and the gates are back down. However, the parking plan does call for offering free deck parking in Phase 2 of the plan.
The new LPR technology is being implemented in response to input from business owners, residents and property owners. The technology will create efficiencies in our current parking procedures; while providing new supply and demand analytics for parking in downtown.
