Floyd County Police Department


Mission:

The mission of the Floyd County Police Department is to ensure the safekeeping and protection of human life and to assist individuals who are in danger of physical harm. The department will also provide surveillance protection of all private, business, and public properties within the jurisdiction of the Floyd County Georgia, and direct and participate in public well-being and safety efforts when the jurisdiction is threatened by natural disasters. The Floyd County Police Department will maintain an environment suited to the equal administration of the law, and provide for individual pursuit by each person of their constitutional rights to liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness.

Divisions:

The Administrative Staff is responsible for assisting the Chief of Police and performing managerial, administrative and specialized work functions associated with overseeing police services and departmental administrative activities, protecting life and property, and enforcing federal, state and local laws.


The Patrol Division is responsible for protecting life and property, to respond to the needs of the general public, to deter criminal activity within the community, to enforce all county statutes, ordinances and the laws and regulations of the state, and to perform investigations. A patrol officer at the Floyd County Police Department can expect to spend his/her shift responding to calls for service, investigating traffic accidents, enforcing federal, state and local laws and enforcing traffic laws in an effort to reduce traffic accidents.


The department’s patrol division works four 10-hour shifts each week.  The patrol officer enjoys three consecutive days off each week.  The shift is usually made up of a Captain, Sergeant and five to eight patrol officers.  


All new officers will begin their careers in patrol division and will be eligible for transfer to specialized units after two years.

The Investigation Division is in charge of investigating crimes against persons and crimes againts property which includes homicides, assaults, rapes, robberies, burglaries, thefts and arsons.


The Rome/Floyd County Metro Drug Task Force is responsible for the investigation and control of organized crime and vice activities. These activities including the illegal sale and distribution of controlled substances, illegal gambling operations and prostitution.


The Rome/Floyd Swat Team is responsible for hostage situations, barricaded subjects, sniper situations, search/arrest warrants and VIP protection.


The Northwest Georgia Bomb Squad is responsible for responding to and neutralizing improvised explosive devices.  The squad responds to calls for service in Rome and Floyd County as well as eleven other counties in Northwest Georgia.


The School Resource Officer is responsible for assisting the school administration in maintaining school safety. The School Resource Officer is the liaison between the school and government agencies. The SRO continuously builds a positive rapport between police and students and educates students on legal issues.

The Environmental Code Enforcement Unit was formed in 2000 to address all local code ordinance violations along with State Environmental Laws.
