Policies and Procedures for Citizen Boards
The boards, committees and commissions provide an invaluable service to Floyd County. Their advice on a
wide variety of subjects aids the Board of Commissioners in the decision-making process. It is because of their study and recommendations that many successful County programs exist today. Effective citizen participation provides a necessary link between governments and the community.
Floyd County’s boards, committees and commissions bring together citizen viewpoints, which might not otherwise be heard. Persons of wide-ranging qualifications, who are interested in public service training, but not in public office, can be involved in government. These bodies also serve as a training ground or stepping stone for qualified persons who are interested in seeking public office.
Boards, committees and commissions originate from different sources. The Georgia Law provides for the establishment of many of these. Others were established by the actions of the Board of Commissioners, either in the form of ordinance or resolution.
The following is a list of boards and commission available for citizen participation along with current vacancies. Even if a vacancy does not exist in the board or committee you are interested in, please submit a Citizen Board Application and you will be contacted should an opening become available. We thank you for your interest and appreciate your input at any time. All meetings are open to the public. Profiles are kept on file in the Clerk’s office. Upon receipt of a Citizen Board Application, the information is entered into a database listing the particular Board, Committee or Authority a person has indicated an interest in serving. When a vacancy occurs on the various Boards, the file is reviewed and a list of potential appointees is given to the Board for consideration of appointment.
Upon appointment to a Board, the person is notified in writing by the County Clerk of their appointment, with a copy being sent to the appropriate contact for the Board. The appointee will then be contacted by the Board informing them of the meeting dates, places, etc. A copy of the Policies and Procedures for Citizen Boards is mailed from the Clerk’s office with their letter of appointment.
